The Unlucky Day at School! - Part 1

"A storm is brewing not far from the east side of the city," the reporter announced. "Stay tuned for when we return with information on the subject." The commercial came up and the TV was switched off.

Amber stared out her window, where her brother Josh was riding with his bike around the yard.

A storm? she thought. Would it reach my school? What would happen to my family? My friends? She was snapped back into reality when her brother saw her staring at him. "Are you feeling okay, big sis?"

"Huh? Oh, I'm fine Josh! Not to worry." she called back. "I'm fine."

I'm not fine. She thought to herself.

"Hey, did ya hear about the storm last week?" Greg asked as he ran up to Jason who was eating his lunch. "Bet it's gonna be wicked!"

"Dude," Jason grumbled. "I'm eating. Shut up, please." Greg rolled his eyes and ate his lunch as well. He noticed a hooded figure walking through the lunchroom, paper bag in hand. He nudged Jason and pointed. "Jace, look! Amber's back. Bet she's freaked cause of the storm last week."

Jason cleared his throat. "What?" Greg grumbled, before a glass of water was thrown to his face. Worse, it had ice cubes. "COLD!" he yelped.

Amber grinned before him, an empty cup in hand. "Hope that was refreshing, Greg. Cause I ain't giving anymore treats."

Greg wiped his face and grunted. "Yeah, you act brave now, but wait till you hear what I've found last week." he bragged.

Jason sat up, interested. "What is it? Spill!"

"Yeah, Greg, what is it?"

He cleared his throat dramatically. Amber and Jason rolled their eyes. "Well, I found that about a century ago, an incident occurred," He lowered his voice. "You know the old building near the school?" They nodded. "One day, all the children there disappeared. Into thin air! Poof."

"Poof," Jason repeated, eyeing his fork.

"Yeah," he continued. "And it was during a freak storm. I even heard news people going mad just standing there. And if they did go crazy, they all kept blabbing the exact same line, all of them!"

Amber sat down, eyes wide. "Wait, all of them. Like, 100% of them?"

"Yes."

"What did they say?"

"Hard to say," Greg admitted. "But it's something about a storm on the day where luck turns and children reappearing."

"Wait," Jason asked, confused. "What did they mean, 'the day where luck turns.'?"

Greg shrugged. Amber tapped her chin in thought. "Friday the 13th. That's it."

They both turned to her. "Friday the what now?"

"Friday the 13th. It's known as the day of bad luck. That's what they said, right? 'The day where luck turns.' Because luck is know for being, well, lucky. But if it turns, it becomes the opposite. It becomes bad luck."

Jason gaped at her. "Wow, Amber. Since when did you get so smart?"

Even Greg seemed impressed. "Who knew a girl like her could get so smart?"

Amber knock the back of his head. "Very funny, your annoying-ness." They laughed so hard until a few kids turned to look at them. Could all of this be connected somehow? a nagging voice said in the back of Amber's mind. Or just a coincidence?

None of the friends noticed the giant black storm clouds rising in the distance, heading their way.
